About JOYRIDE

A co-production between Oily Cart and Ockham’s Razor

JOYRIDE is the second collaboration between Oily Cart and Ockham’s Razor, following the hugely successful Something in the Air.  It is a large-scale, sensory, kinetic performance made for and with disabled young people and their peers.

Designed to proudly takeover public outdoor city spaces, the young audience members will ride together in fantastical vehicles. Along their journey they will encounter performers on wheels, weaving around them to create the exhilarating experience of riding, moving, dancing together. The vehicles will travel through different sensory worlds, which will be co-designed with disabled children who experience the most barriers to access.

Behind the scenes

With this show, we’re excited to go big and explore the unexpected with Ockham’s Razor once again, and to play with positive risk and the kinaesthetic sense (the sense of movement). You can read our interview with Esther Veale about her sister Mary, and the value of risky experiences for people who experience the most barriers to access.
